During the month of Kiahk, the Church celebrates four weeks with four related Gospel readings (from the Gospel of St. Luke). For this reason, you will notice that some hymns differ from week to week.
On the first week is the annunciation of the birth of St. John the Baptist to St. Zacharias and St. Elizabeth. On the second week is the annunciation of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. On the third week is the visit of St. Mary to her cousin, St. Elizabeth. On the fourth week is the birth of St. John the Baptist.
This time of praises and fasting leads up to the celebration on the 29th of the month of Kiahk of the Feast of the Nativity - the incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Hymns and Rituals differ between the Weekdays and the Weekends. The Hymns and Rituals for the first Monday and the last Friday of the Lent are a combination of the weekday and weekend rite. On the last Friday of Lent, a General Unction of the Sick is prayed in the church in preparation for the Holy Week.
The theme for the hymns is typically related to: Fasting, Prayer, Repentance which are the three practices that go hand-in-hand during the Lenten period.
